A gathering to address systemic risk

Three Cascade Institute team members—Michael Lawrence, Megan Shipman, and Scott Janzwood, seen above emulating the institute’s logo — recently traveled to Switzerland to attend the inaugural convening of the Accelerator for Systemic Risk Assessment (ASRA) network. ASRA is a new and rapidly growing organization dedicated to transforming the field of systemic risk. A major goal of this three-day meeting was to develop ASRA’s mission and to deepen this growing global network of individuals and organizations focused on systemic risk assessment and response. At the meeting, we identified new collaborators and connected with CI Scientific Advisory Board members Pia Johanna Schweizer (Research Institute for Sustainability) and Lalitha Sundaram (Centre for the Study of Existential Risk). We also served as members of ASRA’s various working groups, which focus on systemic risk assessment, systemic risk response, and the development of a “state of the practice” report. The experience left us feeling invigorated and excited to push onward with our own polycrisis analyses.
